Portland’s boys’ team began its rise at the 2021 regional meet, securing first place. The Bulldogs went on to win the Class A South title in 2022 and repeated the feat last year, capturing their first state championship since 1978.
On Saturday, Portland claimed its fourth consecutive regional crown with a score of 43 points, while Scarborough finished second with 70. Aran Johnson led both the Bulldogs and the competition, completing the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes and 22.98 seconds.
